How would Aroaki, Mt Cook and Westland Tai Poutini National Parks in New Zealand be managed while considering the impacts of climate change and tourism?

Westland Tai Poutini National Park is located on the western coast of New Zealand’s South Island. Established in 1960, the centenary of the European settlement of Westland District, it covers 1,320 km², and extends from the highest peaks of the Southern Alps to a wild and remote coastlin

Consultation is underway for the draft management plans that were submitted first in September last year. Each plan discusses ways to manage increasing visitor numbers in the parks.

When the plans were first announced, the Department of Conservation (DOC) said every bit of feedback would be fed into the draft plans. Hearings will be held after the closure of submissions.

Conservation boards will then consider revised plans before going to the New Zealand Conservation Authority for approval.
