AccuWeather Global Weather Center – AccuWeather reports the coldest air of the season is set to blast through the United Kingdom and Ireland early next week.

A low pressure system and associated cold front will bring showers to the United Kingdom and Ireland late Sunday into Monday. Behind this cold front, a very chilly air mass originating from the Arctic will spread over the region.

The colder air will reach Ireland, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Monday before arriving in Wales and England by Tuesday.

Along with this much colder air, there will be rain and snow showers occurring across Northern Ireland, northern England and Scotland. Wintry showers will also be seen across northern and western Ireland. Any accumulating snowfall is expected to be confined to the higher terrain away from the coast on Monday and Tuesday.

For many of the areas highlighted above, this will be the first snowfall of the season.

As the cold air continues to build into the United Kingdom, winds will turn to the northeast bringing the threat for the first snowflakes of the season to London and surrounding areas on Wednesday.

High temperatures over the weekend and on Monday will be near 10 C (50 F) in the city. After the cold air arrives, highs are only expected to reach 4-5 C (near 40 F) on Tuesday through Thursday.

The normal high temperature in London this time of year is 9.4 C (49 F).
