Kisses from the world: the global flash mob in homage to Dante and Francesca da Rimini
Francesca 2021 – A tribute to Dante Alighieri and the myth of Francesca da Rimini is the program of Dante’s celebrations of the seventh centenary anniversary year of his death.
The poet’s death was also celebrated on March 8 on the occasion of Women’s Day in the form of a planetary flash mob that connected live streaming 21 universities on 5 continents under the “Kiss of Francesca” promoted by the Municipalities of Rimini and Gradara and by the Emilia-Romagna and Marche Regions in anticipation of the official 2021 celebrations program on March 25.
In the course of the event from spring to autumn, Rimini, Gradara, and the Malatesta territories – between Romagna and the Marche regions – will celebrate Dante Alighieri and Francesca da Rimini, the most known and most loved Divine Comedy character in the world with 30 coordinated cultural events.
The cultural program
Francesca 2021 foresees 30 appointments under the banner of Francesca da Rimini, the most famous and beloved character of the Divine Comedy, which will see the extraordinary heroine of love and passion invade cities and castles of the Rimini valleys with exhibitions; theatrical, musical, and cinematographic performances; conferences; and study days.
Francesca the protagonist is not only a poetic expression, but is an icon of the kiss and fidelity, and also as a symbol of freedom and the affirmation of rights, as between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, more than 2000 romantic artists felt, lived, and described her from every country of Europe and America.
